The Sun has been constantly in the news over the last few months due them drastically changing by getting rid of their paywall. The chief executive of Enders Analysis states that with the nature of the news that the Sun releases, a paywall was never going to work but the Sun will be something that both UK and the world should anticipate. He further went onto say that the Sun, in some sense, invented social media in print, and although they did not know what to do on the internet, they have learnt from past mistakes and will grow in 2016. Another significant change for the Sun is Rebekah Brooks being reinstated as News UK's chief executive, after she was cleared of charges from her previous scandal.

  • The Sun reported just under 25 million monthly browsers in November, the same level as in mid-2009 and about 10% of the equivalent figure for world leader Mail Online.
  • For the newspaper industry the good news is that 2016 isn’t shaping up to be quite as bad as the past 12 months.
I think that the Sun has potential to grow in 2016 as with the abolishment of their paywall, many of their previous audience, who did not subscribe, may return as faithful readers. However, there are several other news institutions who have more experience online and is significantly more successful online than the Sun is. This means that the audience members may flock to the more popular online news sites and the Sun will never be able to regain the powerful they once had.
